Arrive at Jorhat Airport for a one-hour drive to Neamati Ghat, the embarkation point. Alternatively, you can arrive in Dibrugarh, a provincial town that served as a major American base during World War II, and take a four-hour drive to reach Neamati Ghat. Upon arrival, board your ship and meet the local crew who will welcome you to your 10-night Brahmaputra River Voyage. Spend your first evening becoming familiar with the surroundings—the mighty Himalayan river, the culture of Assam, its people, and your home for the journey ahead.
Overnight onboard ABN Sukapha
Your first excursion introduces you to the vibrant cultural heritage along the Brahmaputra at Sibsagar, once the capital of the Ahom kings. This historic town reflects the Ahoms’ lasting legacy, shaped by a fusion of Indian and Southeast Asian influences. Originally of Shan origin and later followers of Hinduism, the Ahoms ruled Assam for nearly 600 years until the mid-1820s. One of their remarkable architectural achievements has recently been recognized with a UNESCO World Heritage designation.
In Sibsagar, you’ll explore temples with stupa-like profiles and uniquely designed palaces. The temple tank here, believed to be the world’s largest hand-excavated reservoir, is an impressive example of advanced engineering. After your visit, return to the ship and continue cruising downstream to Majuli Island, one of the world’s largest river islands. In the afternoon, visit a riverside village on Majuli Island to experience local life.

Majuli Island, a true reflection of Assamese culture, remains one of the most photographed yet least visited destinations in the region. It is a center of neo-Vaishnavism, a peaceful religious movement, and home to graceful island satras (monasteries) that date back to the 15th century. These satras have long safeguarded Assamese art, traditions, and spiritual practices. The celibate monks here lead a life of simplicity, offering devotion through gayan-bayan (songs and traditional instruments), dance-dramas, and scripture recitation.
Your visit includes Auniati Monastery, known for its fascinating museum, followed by a traditional dance performance at Kamalabari Monastery. Afterwards, return to the ship and continue cruising downstream.

Spend the day sailing at a gentle pace along the Brahmaputra, surrounded by serene rural landscapes. A brief stop offers the chance to visit a riverside village and glimpse local life. By afternoon, Kaziranga National Park comes into view on the left bank. Keep watch for wildlife—wild elephants are often seen from the deck, and on rare, unforgettable occasions, even a tiger has been spotted along the shore.

This morning, arrive in the charming temple town of Biswanath, home to an impressive Ahom-period temple. Step ashore for a guided walk, exploring its architectural heritage, local life, and vibrant weekly markets. Continue cruising to Silghat, a peaceful mooring spot where the surrounding jungle is alive with butterflies.
In the afternoon, set out on your first Kaziranga National Park safari—a jeep drive through the Burapahar Range, where woodlands, grasslands, and wetlands create a rich habitat for diverse wildlife.
Overnight onboard ABN Sukapha
This morning, set out for Kaziranga’s Central Range for an exciting jeep safari.
Spanning roughly 1,090 square kilometers, Kaziranga National Park—a UNESCO World Heritage Site—hosts the world’s largest population of the Indian One-Horned Rhinoceros, along with significant numbers of Indian Wild Water Buffalo. It also boasts the highest density of Royal Bengal Tigers, with one for every five square kilometers, marking it as a true biodiversity treasure. The park’s marshy swamps and expansive elephant grasslands sustain thriving populations of Indian elephants, Indian bison, swamp deer, Hoolock Gibbons, and Capped Langurs.
Often likened to Africa’s Serengeti, Kaziranga captivates with its rich habitats and abundant wildlife. It is also a paradise for birdwatchers, with species such as the Oriental Honey Buzzard, Black-shouldered Kite, White-tailed Eagle, and Himalayan Griffon among its many avian residents.
Pause for a riverside lunch at Diphlu River Lodge, an award-winning eco-lodge that works closely with the local community. In the afternoon, venture into Kaziranga’s Western Range for another rewarding jeep safari, offering more opportunities to encounter the park’s remarkable wildlife.

Today begins with a visit to a scenic Assam tea plantation, where you can experience the region’s lush green landscapes before the ship continues cruising downstream, passing beneath the impressive, seemingly endless bridge to reach Tezpur.
After lunch on board, set out in local battery-operated rickshaws, weaving through the lively bazaars of this riverside town. Your exploration continues at the beautifully maintained Cole Park, perfect for an afternoon stroll. Here, you’ll see an exquisite collection of medieval stone carvings and visit the remains of the 6th-century Da Parbatia temple, known for its intricately carved portal.

After an early breakfast, we will set out on a one-hour drive to Nameri National Park, located at the base of the Eastern Himalayas. This park holds the unique distinction of being a national park, tiger reserve, elephant reserve, and a designated important bird area. It shares its boundary with the Pakke Tiger Reserve in Arunachal Pradesh, creating an extensive stretch of semi-evergreen and evergreen forests in Northeast India.
Upon arrival, you can enjoy a peaceful two-hour float trip along the Jia-Bhoreli River, passing through the park’s scenic landscapes. This serene experience offers excellent bird-watching opportunities, with chances to spot the striking Great Hornbill and, if lucky, observe wild elephants in their natural surroundings.
We will return to the ship in time for lunch, continuing our downstream cruise with memories of the rich beauty and biodiversity of Nameri National Park.

The day will be spent cruising along the river, gliding past a stunning landscape of sand islands that create a unique, almost lunar scenery. As we approach the distant range of hills leading toward Guwahati, we will stop to explore a charming riverside village. In the evening, the vessel will moor near Sualkuchi for the night.
Overnight onboard ABN Sukapha
Enjoy a guided walk through Sualkuchi, a lively silk town at the heart of Assam’s renowned silk heritage. Mahatma Gandhi once remarked, “Assamese women weave dreams on looms.” Here, you will see that sentiment come to life. A visit to the weaving workshops provides an exceptional chance to observe the complete process of silk production, from the cocoon stage to spinning and hand-weaving exquisite mekhela chadars—the traditional two-piece sari worn by Assamese women.
In this urban village, nearly every home houses a loom. Watching the skilled artisans, both men and women, transform fine silk threads into elegant fabrics is an unforgettable experience.
After exploring Sualkuchi’s silk traditions, the vessel will sail toward the grand Saraighat Bridge. From there, a drive will take you into Guwahati for a visit to Nilachal Hill and the revered Kamakhya Temple.
Dedicated to the Mother Goddess, this ancient Hindu temple is celebrated for its distinctive architecture and deep cultural importance. A relaxed walk around the temple’s outer grounds offers time to appreciate its history, artistry, and spiritual atmosphere.
This journey through Sualkuchi and Guwahati presents a seamless blend of Assam’s celebrated silk craft, rich cultural heritage, and striking landscapes.
