Itinerary

Day 1 (Sunday) : Arrive Guwahati & Board MV Mahabaahu

Arrive at Guwahati Airport by 1100 hrs, where our representatives receive you for a drive to the sacred Kamakhya Temple, dedicated to the Goddess of Desire. After this spiritual visit, continue to the MV Mahabaahu cruise vessel.

A warm welcome awaits as you are escorted to your cabin, followed by lunch on board. We soon sail past the Saraighat Bridge, the narrowest stretch of the mighty Brahmaputra River, and glide by Peacock Island, surrounded by Guwahati’s picturesque hills.

Spend the afternoon settling in, and in the evening, gather on the Sun Deck for a sundowner toast to the Brahmaputra, keeping an eye out for playful Gangetic Dolphins.

Later, attend a safety briefing and an orientation on ship facilities over refreshing Assam tea. The evening continues in the lounge with drinks, followed by a Chef’s Welcome Dinner in the ship’s restaurant, Mungri Mungram.

After dinner, guests may relax in the lounge or retire to their cabins.

Overnight on board MV Mahabaahu.

Day 2 (Monday): Bangla Village Visit

Enjoy a relaxed breakfast (0800–1000 hrs), followed by an informative talk on Kamakhya Temple and an orientation for the Bangla Village visit.

We go ashore to interact with villagers living simple yet fulfilling lives on fertile sandbars of the Brahmaputra. Dependent on the river for farming and fishing, they rebuild their homes each year after the monsoon floods — a remarkable display of resilience and harmony with nature.

Return to the ship for lunch and leisure time — unwind with a book, enjoy the steam, sauna, Jacuzzi, or indulge in an Ayurvedic massage. You may also take a dip in the swimming pool or relax on the Sun Deck watching the river’s ever-changing moods.

Evening brings tea and pakoras accompanied by a talk on Assam’s geography, tribal life, and its key industries of tea, silk, and jute.

Overnight on board MV Mahabaahu.

Day 3 (Tuesday): Jeep Safari – Panpur Range, Kaziranga National Park

Start your day with morning tea, Yog, and breakfast, followed by a presentation on Kaziranga National Park and its unique wildlife.

We sail past Singri and Tezpur, under the Kaliabhamura Bridge, reaching Silghat where the ship docks. After an early lunch, drive for about an hour to the Panpur Range of Kaziranga for an afternoon jeep safari.

Explore this rich ecosystem teeming with one-horned rhinoceros, wild buffalo, elephants, swamp deer, and numerous bird species.

Return to the ship for an evening of traditional Bihu dance, followed by dinner and a relaxed night in the lounge. Wake-up calls for the next morning’s early start are arranged at reception.

Overnight on board MV Mahabaahu.

Day 4 (Wednesday): Kaziranga National Park / Sail to Diphlu

Begin early for a once-in-a-lifetime elephant safari (optional) in Kaziranga National Park. After breakfast at a local resort, continue exploring the park by open jeep to cover its diverse habitats and wildlife.

By noon, re-embark the ship at Silghat, enjoy lunch, and spend the afternoon relaxing or observing river life from the Sun Deck as we sail towards Diphlu.

Overnight on board MV Mahabaahu.

Day 5 (Thursday): Bishwanath Ghat Weaving Village / Boat Safari

Sail early towards Bishwanath Ghat, and after breakfast, attend an orientation on the village, Boat Safari, and Mishing Village.

At Bishwanath, explore a charming riverside settlement filled with weavers, fishermen, farmers, and boat makers. Watch local women at their looms, weaving vibrant patterns that tell stories of Assamese tradition. Visit the historic Shiva Dol Temple, stroll along the rocky riverbank, and soak in the village’s quiet beauty.

Return for lunch and later set out on a boat safari to the Eastern Range (Agoratoli) of Kaziranga, viewing wildlife from a unique river perspective.

Back on board at sunset, enjoy a live cooking demonstration with the Chef.

Overnight on board MV Mahabaahu.

Day 6 (Friday): Mishing Village Visit & Assamese Theme Evening

After morning Yog and breakfast, enjoy a relaxing sail before visiting the Mishing Village, home to an ethnic community living in traditional stilt houses (Chang Ghars). Watch women weaving brilliantly colored textiles beneath their homes — a chance to purchase authentic handmade fabrics.

Return for lunch as we sail upstream towards Majuli. During the evening, enjoy a talk and orientation on Majuli and Sivasagar, followed by a delightful Assamese Theme Night featuring traditional attire (Mekhla Chadar and Dhoti-Kurta), music, dance, and regional cuisine including freshly caught fried fish.

Overnight on board MV Mahabaahu

Day 7 (Saturday): Majuli Island & Sivasagar

After an early breakfast, take tenders to Majuli Island, the world’s largest inhabited river island, and a vibrant center of neo-Vaishnavite culture. Witness devotional Gayan-Bayan performances by monks, traditional Dashavatar dance by young girls, and dramatic episodes from the Ramayana performed with expressive masks.

Return to the ship for lunch and sail to Neamati Ghat. In the afternoon, either embark on an excursion to Sivasagar, the ancient Ahom capital with its historic temples and monuments, or enjoy a nature walk along the bund near Neamati to observe birdlife and rural life.

In the evening, gather for the Chef’s “Alvida Bhoj” Farewell Dinner, celebrating your memorable journey on the Brahmaputra.

Overnight on board MV Mahabaahu.

Day 8 (Sunday): Nature Walk, Home-Hosted Lunch & Departure

Early risers can enjoy a guided nature walk along the bund at Neamati Ghat, offering glimpses of Assamese village life — farmers at work, fishermen casting nets, children cycling to school, and birds like owls, orioles, quails, and woodpeckers among fruit trees and swamps.

Return for breakfast, then disembark at 0900 hrs to visit a tea estate for a home-hosted early lunch with a planter’s family. Learn about Assam’s century-old tea traditions during an informal tea talk, stroll through the estate’s herbal gardens, and enjoy warm hospitality.

After lunch, bid farewell to your hosts and transfer to Jorhat Airport for your onward flight.
